Q:  Is it possible to undertake a clinical placement in Hospice?

A:  Yes, Northern Ireland Hospice work closely with Queen's University Belfast and University of Ulster offering placements for students from a variety of settings and with a variety of needs.  These include:

  • Pre-registration nursing students
  • Return to practice nurses
  • Students carrying out MSc in Palliative Care / BSc (Hons) in Specialist Nursing Practice (Palliative Care) at University of Ulster
  • Chaplaincy students
  • Social Work students
  • Medical students
  • Others by request


Q:  How do I know which course is suitable for my discipline?

A:  Information regarding which disciplines each course is intended for can be found by clicking on the individual course within the study day/courses section.  Information on the course content is also available.  If you have further questions please contact the Education Office on +44 (0)28 90781836.


Q:  How do I book a place on a course?

A:  Application forms are available from the Education Office on +44 (0)28 90781836 or by emailing


Q:  How do I pay for a course?

A:  Payment may be made by cheque, cash or an invoice can be issued.


Q:  How do I know if I have been accepted on the course?

A:  Confirmation of your place on the course will be sent by email.


Q: What happens if I cannot attend a course?

A:  No refund can be made were participants do not attend, but a substitute participant is welcome at any time or transfer can be made to an alternative course. 50% of the course fee will be charged in the event of a booking being cancelled less than 1 week before the course date.


Q:  My organisation is interested in accessing education but unable to commit to sending staff out to courses.  Can you take the education sessions to us?

A:  Yes, Northern Ireland Hospice Education Team can take tailor made education sessions out to individual workplaces.  These sessions can vary from 1-2 hour sessions to full days dependant on the needs of the organisation.


Q:  Where can I seek funding for the course?

A:  It is worthwhile checking with your employer if they are willing to fund/part fund the course.  Other organisations which often provide funding support for courses include:

Criteria for funding varies with each organisation and only certain types of courses (such as accredited courses) may be eligible for some funds. Some of our courses have commissioned places available for health care employees.  Check with your Trust Education Lead for information and availability.
