| Entry Requirements | In order to undertake the course, applicants must be qualified Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Dietitians, Speech and Language Therapists or Therapeutic Radiographers and be working in a suitable practice setting e.g. in an acute hospital, nursing home or hospice, community setting and should have direct contact with patients requiring a palliative approach to care. |
| Content: | The course is divided into seven sections, each covering the principles and practice for delivering end-of-life care in different settings:
It is estimated that each of the eight weeks of the course will require approximately 10 hours of work to complete. Total study time required = 80 hours. |
| Assessment | Portfolio (Case Study): Candidates write a portfolio (case study) demonstrating personal and professional reflection about the management of a patient with palliative care needs and relate this to current thinking and with what is hypothesised for the future of the speciality. Support from the facilitator is given to assist the candidate with this.
Written Examination: The 90 minute written assessment will comprise multiple choice questions on topics covered in the handbook and DVD and short written questions in response to a video scenario covering palliative communication issues. On successful completion of the course assessments candidates will be awarded a certificate and detailed breakdown of marks. |
